Pacific Breeze Seabus
Pacific Breeze, the newest Seabus, will soon join the two older vessels moving passengers across Vancouver's Burrard Inlet. Brenco ran 24/7 on its 8'X40' waterjet table to cut 170,000 lbs of sheet and plate aluminum for the hull and superstructure components. The hull was built in Victoria while the superstructure was built in North Vancouver. The superstructure was barged to the shipyard in Victoria where it was married to the hull. The completed Seabus was then floated back to Vancouver. Waterjet was chosen as the cutting method. Although more expensive than plasma cutting, waterjet does not create a heat affected zone (HAZ) which has to be removed before welding. This saved the builders hundreds of man hours of weld prep.
