Elizabeth Roy dedicated her work entitled "The Launch" to the 1400 women that worked in the Vancouver shipyards while the men fought overseas during WWII. It stands across from the aging structures of the Burrard Dry Docks in North Vancouver which will soon be replaced by waterfront development. Long after the old buildings are gone Elizabeth’s sculpture will serve as a reminder to an important period in Canadian history.
